My first mosaic’ed sink

July 31st, 2010 | kristin

A pool contractor donated these sample pool tiles last year instead of throwing them in the garbage. Our customers are so thoughtful! I was waiting for the perfect project to use them on and low and behold…this $2.99 thrift store gem caught my eye. This will be a conversation piece at our MoZaic Art Fest [...]

Getting ready to mosaic a shoe

July 21st, 2010 | kristin

It’s MY shoe. Last night our 8 year old golden retriever decided to chew. Underneath the plaster wrap was a Bjorn sandal I wore yesterday. My fault…thought I’m only have convinced. Ive always wanted to mosaic a shoe and had all the supplies and a pair of thrift store heels, I just needed the inspiration. [...]

Thrift Store chair finds a home.

February 6th, 2010 | kristin

I found this clunker at Salvation Army and I knew I wanted it, though I didn’t know why. Our Tea largo store needed something fun in the front window… The arms are mosaic’ed with painted ceramic tiles, chunky beach glass, beads, glass marbles, and ceramic addons. Grouted with lowe’s shade of chamois.

This guy was soooo cute! Looks like rocks, stones, mirror, bottles and other found objects in concrete and colored concrete.

Substrate Rescue, Completed

Here it is! From trash, to retail display window. Thank u to the sweet little house on my commute to school who threw this piece out. I used different types of red and white glass and did sort of a color-block effect. We grouted with a warm, earthy color (sahara tan). I matched it up [...]

Substrate Rescue, Part 2

November 10th, 2009 | kristin

It’s another garbage day today here in Lakeland, and before I post today’s curbside goody, I felt like I should finish this. My vision… A window window display for Picassoz studio. I will figure out what to display in it later… Ornaments, jewelry, gift cards? Let’s see what happens today!

Substrate Rescue. A curbside find to mosaic.

November 3rd, 2009 | kristin

I “updated my facebook status” yesterday that I had an urge to mosaic something old, not expensive antiques, more like old junk (thinking flea market vintage). Well, my sister Shelly commented “street shopping” which to our family means driving around on garbage day… Which is today here in Lakeland. So, whether she was kidding or [...]

Make a broken tile mosaic bench as a memorial

September 7th, 2009 | kristin

It’s no fun assembling a memorial for a 21 year old. Somehow just days after this young man’s death in a car accident, while my stepson and all his friends were grieving, suddenly I pictured this tile project as a tangible way to grieve. I had to act fast, as people were in town a [...]

Local Businesses love support of their community

September 7th, 2009 | kristin

Its just so sweet knowing that people out in the community think about how they can help local business.    In the season where schools and non-profits are working hard for their fund-raising campaigns, I got a call this week that a lady wanted to donate discontinued sample pool tiles to our studio.   She [...]
